Meet The Team | Gary

Lover of Stouts, Super Hopped IPA's and high ABV's, Gary is no stranger to writing up new recipes for beers he's dreamt up. When he's not busy brewing you'll often find him pitching ideas for new brews and events we should be at, or volunteering to hold new beers in photo sessions (all so he can get the first taste.)

After any excuse to have a beer, Gary and I popped to Vocation & Co. in Hebden Bridge to have a chat about everything he's done at the brewery and have a pint or two.

"My job at the brewery is Shift Leader within the brewing team. It's a pretty big mix of jobs so it involves running the brewhouse, wort production, daily CIPs and QC, cellaring duties and site upkeep. I've been at Vocation for 3 and a half years now but before that I studied Marine biology at university, then went onto bar work to pay the bills, which is when I started brewing at home and made friends in the industry. It was whilst working at West Riding in Dewsbury that I decided I wanted to try brewing as a career too. I first heard about Vocation very early on in Vocation's history, while working at the bar mid-late 2015, I followed the brewery right up to starting working here.

When I'm not at the pub or working I spend a lot of time fishing and I'm a big rugby union fan. I also do a lot of reading, am a lifelong nerd and a chilli fiend!"

After a bit of a catch up and a decision to have some more pints the next round is on me, "If you're buying, I'll have a cask Bread & Butter or anything from our BA range!"

Once events start again you'll definitely find Gary behind the bar, so buy him a pint and have a chat with him about your favourite Barrel Aged Beers.
