Assistant/Duty Manager Position

Vocation brewery began brewing in 2015, quickly gaining a reputation for modern hop forward beers. From small beginnings it has grown rapidly to be one of the UK’s leading independent craft breweries.

In June 2017 the brewery opened its tap room Vocation & Co. in its home Hebden Bridge. Vocation & Co. showcases, not only Vocation products, but a huge range of beers from other well respected breweries from the UK, Europe and America. With 16 Keg lines and 4 cask lines it boasts the best selection of keg beers in the local area.

Now we are bringing this to Leeds. Located near the Millennium Square in what used to Carpe Diem the new site will boast 50 lines of the best keg and cask beer out there.

The Role

The Assistant manager is responsible in supporting the GM in all roles pertaining to the success and smooth running of Vocation Leeds.  Leeds already has an amazing range of bars and we want Vocation Leeds to join the scene and quickly gain a reputation for high quality and good service. Part of the AGM’s role is to maintain standards while keeping the business profitable. When the GM isn’t present the AGM will be leading the site and undertaking all of the responsibilities that go with that role. The role will at times be challenging but highly rewarding and an ability to continue to bring a positive attitude and lead staff is a must.

 

This role will be salaried to work 44 hours a week, with salary dependent upon experience.

Working with the general manager day to day responsibilities will include:

  • Training and management of staff.
  • Ensuring high standards of service are met.
  • Cellar management.
  • Ordering and stock handling.
  • Communicating with customers to a high level.
  • Liaising with the GM and owners to assess performance and set targets for the business.
  • Ensuring profitability targets are met to ensure the viability of the business.
  • Receiving customer feed back and taking steps to improve the business.
  • Handling of social media across multiple platforms.
  • Recruiting staff as roles become available including advertising and interviewing of candidates.
  • Training of staff particularly involving knowledge of beer and breweries.
  • Ensuring the site is always safe and secure .
  • Meeting health and safety standards.
  • Ensuring the business is compliant with various government directives.

 

The candidate will require skills or knowledge in:

  • GP management, stock control, P & L.
  • Previous management experience in similar role
  • Organisation and time management.
  • Ability to lead a team of staff.
  • Ability to train and inspire staff.
  • Being in a highly social environment.
  • High quality beer service and a broader spectrum of alcohol.
  • A desire to grow and gain new experiences and skills.
  • Computer literacy with Word and Excel experience essential.

Non-essential but desirable skills:

  • Events experience.
  • Personal License holder.
  • Health and safety knowledge.
  • Previous Spirit and wine experience.
